It’s March and baseball season is almost here again! Sports stadiums around the country are more and more becoming bastions of culinary indulgence beyond just the typical hot dogs and beer. Citi Field — home of the New York Mets — is a prime example of this, as the team has recruited high-profile names from the restaurant industry in the past several years, including David Chang’s Fuku Chicken and Shake Shack.

New to the ballpark for the 2023 season are specialty menus and items from Food Network personalities Sunny Anderson (“The Kitchen” and “Home Made in America”), Marc Murphy (“Chopped”), and chocolatier Jacques Torres.

Similarly to last year, Citi Field is also making the most of its relationships with regional emerging brands, with offerings like macaroni and cheese- and cheeseburger-stuffed empanadas from Empanada Mama in Hell’s Kitchen, tamarind barbecue wings from Brooklyn-based nonprofit refugee empowerment restaurant Emma’s Torch, and bagel sandwiches from Connecticut-based PopUp Bagels.

Several of the new dessert options also featured blue and orange themes as a nod to the Mets colors, like blue vanilla ice cream with chocolate doughnuts and Oreo crumbles, and an Oreo doughnut with blue and orange drizzle from Long Island’s Sundae Donuts, a Huntington dessert spot that features doughnut-infused ice cream sundaes and decorative donuts.

Speaking of dessert, Jacques Torres will be selling his famous chocolate chip cookies, along with milk chocolate Cheerios and a Mr. Met black and white chocolate bar.

Other new food and drink additions include a members-only speakeasy called The Cadillac Club
at Payson’s, which features lounge seating, flat-screen TVs showing the game, sightlines to the field, and complimentary, food, soft drinks, beer and wine.

For an option that’s open to the public, The Mets are also revamping their partnership with Coca-Cola to open the first Coca-Cola food truck, which will highlight rotating food and Coca-Cola product pairings. The first vendor “up at bat” at the food truck will be Chiddy’s Cheesesteaks, an award-winning Long Island cheesesteak brand that will offer two steak-and-cheese-piled sandwiches.
