Restaurant: Barclay Prime, Philadelphia
Units: 1
Creator: Stephen Starr
Price: $120
Ingredients: Japanese Wagyu beef cooked in truffle butter with truffle shavings, truffled foie gras mousse, Spanish onion and truffle cheese whiz made with truffle cheese grated into a béchamel. Served on a seeded semolina roll.
What makes it special: Philadelphia is known for its cheesesteaks; Barclay Prime has taken a city staple and put its own luxurious and high-end twist. This version is richly decadent, staying true to its roots, but elevated by tender Wagyu beef, foie gras and truffles. The texture of the steak is balanced with the velvety truffled cheese whiz and a freshly baked semolina roll. It’s served with a half bottle of champagne.
What others are saying: Eater called it “The $120 Philly Cheesesteak that’s actually worth it.” Listed by The Daily Meal among the “World’s Most Expensive Cheesesteaks and Burgers.” Listed by CNN Money among “Most Expensive Junk Food.” Listed by People as among “Most Expensive, Craziest Food in the World.”
